LAKE ERIE SPEEDWAY TO HOST THE 2013 LEGENDS ASPHALT NATIONALS  FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2005

Erie, Pa (January 30, 2013) - Lake Erie Speedway and INEX/US Legend Cars International have confirmed the prestigious Legends Asphalt Nationals will be held at Lake Erie Speedway September 12th-15th.  INEX/US Legends Cars International, the sanctioning body for Legends racing throughout the country, worked with Lake Erie Speedway management to reach an agreement that would showcase both the event and facility.

The Legends Asphalt Nationals traditionally features 125-200 Legends competitors from all across the country in a multi day battle for division national points in each designated Legends division including Young Lions, Semi-Pro, Pro, and Masters.  The three day event will include practice sessions, qualifying, heat races, various undercard races, and an A-Main race for each designated division.

The Legends Asphalt Nationals takes place only once a year at different speedways and regions much like the Super Bowl is hosted in different cities each year.  Atlanta Motor Speedway played host to the 2012 Legends Asphalt Nationals, and the event was held at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motors Speedway in 2011.

John Haggan, INEX’s Executive Competition Director, said, “We are thrilled to be coming back to Lake Erie Speedway for the 22nd annual Asphalt Nationals.  It is one of the greatest tracks that sanctions with INEX each year.  Our racers will be happy to get back out on this 3/8 mile banked oval to test their skills against each other.”

Lake Erie Speedway previously hosted the Legends Asphalt Nationals in 2005 with tremendous success that featured more than 150 Legends competitors.  In recent years, Lake Erie Speedway has enjoyed one of the best weekly racing programs in the country.

Haggan continued, “We have noticed that LES had an excellent car count all last year and it seems as if racing is growing in this area.  We expect that the whole Northeast will come out in support of this event as well as drivers from the Southeast, Midwest, and even all the way out on the West coast.  We hope to attract our Canadian friends to compete among the best Legend car talent in the world.”

Branden Kaczay, Lake Erie Speedway’s Executive Vice President-Business Operations, stated, “Lake Erie Speedway is proud to host the Legends Asphalt Nationals event as it truly is an honor to be the one asphalt track hosting this once a year event.  We are looking forward to hosting the nation’s best Legends competitors at one of the nation’s best race facilities.  I am confident that this will be a special experience for all of the competitors and fans.”
